Impetus from the Past
Opposites attract! Especially when medieval
alleys and modern town life stand so charmingly
close, as in the former residence and capital of
Burghausen.
Seated below the longest castle in Europe, the
excellently preserved old town presents
architectural masterworks from the Gothic,
baroque and rococo periods, while the vibrant,
newer part of town conveys a purely modern
attitude toward life.

From the picturesque, middle-class houses along
the Salzach, to the imposing tower of the Wacker
chemical plant, there is an endless arc of
tension in the air, framed by the magnificence
of nature. Could there be a more interesting
backdrop for a horticultural show? |

Cornerstones of the
future
For planners and designers, Burghausen is a
godsend "dream come true", in any case. A plan
is in motion which will eventually make
Burghausen even more attractive to its vistiotrs
and inhabitants in 2004: fanciful encounters of
river and town; new links between man and nature
and fruitful ideas for a merger of the past and
the present. In short: the contrasts so typical
for Burghausen will receive a totally new
impetus! True to this objective, the Regional
Horticultural Show has established an enduring
standard, which will benefit the town and its
inhabitants in the years to come.
The over 1000-year-old town will be made even
more beautiful by this remarkable event. Catch
the fever! |

From spectator to lead performer
The Regional Horticultural Show benefits from
the special setting of the town of Burghausen.
How so? First, because the focal point will not
be some isolated site, but the town itself. It
will be at centre stage with its castle, new
town, alleys and plazas. Thus, the show will
coalesce into an experience combined with a new
discovery of the town.
Of course, role of the observer takes on new
meaning. He moves about the stage and can
arrange his own completely personal
horticultural comedy. Where do I go next? Shall
I follow the scent of the flowers? You can come
across highlights by chance or deliberately seek
them out, dream or inquire curiously, saunter or
linger. Because in Burghausen you are the
director and arrange the "horticultural show"
experience as you like. |

Moments for
connoisseurs
Whether you amble through the old town's
alleyways, where craftsmen once plied their
trades, or let yourself be propelled along the
shopping strips of the new town, we invite you
to be curious!
The Regional Horticultural Show will surprise
you again and again with ideas and new prospects.
Here, for instance, the "hidden nature spots"
are revealed: lookout points that provide
enchanting views of the magnificent countryside.
The "sweets" excite all of the senses and the "waterworld
" ... but wait! We won't give away any more!
The calendar of events is just as varied.
Historical festivities and ardent rhythms,
church music and cabaret, jazz and harpsichord,
traditional and modern are on the agenda every
year in Burghausen.
Thanks to the Regional Horticultural Show, this
cultural and adventurous landscape is more
colourful, more spirited, livelier and more
diversified than ever.
Enjoy it! |
