Welcome to Upper
Bavaria's cyclist's paradise between the Inn and
Salzach. The Inn-Salzach region's diverse landscape
was given its shape by ice age glaciers. Where
the Inn, Alz and Salzach rivers meet,
there are large river valleys with unspoilt
floodplains, quit backwaters, impressive
riverbank slopes, expansive terraces with
meadows, forests, fertile farmland and tidy
little villages. On a clear day, the hilly "Holzland" (woodland)
with its picturesque, isolated farms, offers a
panoramic view of the Alps ranging from the Salzkammergut to the Zugspitze.
The old trade towns on the Inn, the medieval,
ducal town of Burghausen and the famous
pilgrimage site of Altötting, famous for its
history of pilgrimage, are rich in art
treasures and culture. Valuable treasures can
also be found in
the countryside`s many, small churches and cloisters.
The numerous landmarks of the Inn-Salzach region
are easily reachable over Altötting and
Mühldorf`s extensive network of bike
paths. Most of the routes are easy to ride because of minimal
variations in altitude, and thus perfectly
suitable for families. The Inn valley bike path
links the Inn-Salzach holiday region with Tyrol
and the long-distance bike path on the Danube.
